Solved
Like in the description it seems something is broken in my game. Before the update i had no issues detecting ore flying low ore even the ore close to my base was always shown when my ship was landet. Since the update i only detect ore at very close range no matter what kind of ship/vehicle using. Also checked the options/reload/hud and such. Even on known spots, there is no detection anymore. Savegame file is attached.
Thanks in advance.

I have tried start a new game. There the detection is working as it should. Back to my save, i respawned to a planetary lander to be sure i have nothing wrong on my side. But even with the lander i am unable to detect ore. So it seems something is broken with my savegame...

1.193.022 still has this problem, i do not see any ores anywhere. This really needs to be fixed.

So i loaded a mod wich gives me detectors with larger ranges. It detects ore in 600m distance from base, anything closer is not longer detectable... The question is now, how to rescue my savegame?

Savegame is good. Ore detection needs to be fixed. Deep ore is detected only from time to time. Those signals you get are most probably from surface rocks.

Yeah currently i try to figure out what i can do. The ore dector on my base only discovered one single asteroid in 600m but with a total range of 1.2km... i installed one on my drill rover with a range of 400m, it detected deep iron close to the uranium and gold deposits, but nothing at the cave which i have started a little further away. But im sure there is detectable stuff, before the update i was able to see it.

Ok it seems underground detection is mostly broken, mostly because im still occasionally able to get something but very rare. Is there a way to reset this stuff?

Probably same issue i have observed. after 1.188 update i noticed that my miner's ore detector only showed one ore in an asteroid. So i thought my game might have gotten some weird settings in the update, tried deleting my %appdata% -> space engineers folder together with the game and re installed it from steam. started a new game "easy start space" world. Close by there is Cobalt, iron and ice. I placed an ore detector on the grid close by (35 meters) and only one of the three ores were displaying on the hud. if you move the ore detector closer to any of the other ores, they will appear on the hud, but the previous one disappears. SO in my experience only the closest ore is detected and shows. in the three pictures i demonstrated 2 things, one, that any ore detector only display one ore in hud, and that you can combine them to show both.
sorry for long reply; Over and out.

Weird stuff. I dont bother with that broken savegame anymore, my spare playtime is too precious. Made blueprints of my creations and will start a new game soon. I have already tested a new world and there i could detect ore properly again.

I can confirm this is happening in vanilla, both in single player and on Keen's official servers (NA7, to be specific).

Confirmed on vanilla, both planetside and on asteroids. Was literally mining a large patch of asteroid iron that my detector refused to pick up.

I can confirm this. I've tested this in vanilla, both planet side and on asteroids in both a local game and on a dedicated server. It is making survival games extremely difficult.

Confirmed - Ore detectors on planets struggle to pick up the ice on a lake. Asteroid ore detectors only work if it is practically touching an exposed surface ore. Makes Survival incredibly difficult as Terry said.

[1.188.024]
I have a screen with additional information that might help to find the problem. The "iron" shows up when i am near another deposit (in front of the ship). The iron disapears if i move away from the nearest deposit. The deposit in front of the ship (nearest) is never shown.

I've also noticed that ore indicators disappear if you just rotate your ship/player around without moving the center of the grid. I'm assuming that something is triggering the "rediscover" in the ore detector but failing with the current generation voxels.
As I'm typing this, I'm curious. Does anyone have a save file from 6 months ago which they can test (specifically with voxel generator #2) to narrow this down to a voxel generator issue -vs- an ore detector bug.

I know that you can change that in the save file. I will give it a try when I get home.

I tried as save from 22.03.2018 Star System. The world converted and i had no asteroids, but deposits on the moon are detected fine.

I'm with you on that. Kind of a key thing in survival you'd expect it to be fixed by now.

Modded world, created after update, using Azimuth's space only overclocked ore detectors. Small grid, range set to 800m (out of max 2500m). It basically detects ores (sometimes, really sometimes) at 50-80m range, 280-250m range and once or twice deposits 3.5km away shown up.
Vanila small detectors work more reliably in the range of up to 30m. Large grid ones haven't seem them pick up anything, but didn't use them much.
Handheld drill doesn't pick up signals too. I drilled larger half of ~200k gold ore deposit besfore it shown up.
At this point I'm forced to eat up every asteroid piece by piece and digest et all, or I get nothing.
