H. E. Kinsloe Dead

When he was seized with the trouble thatcaused his sudden death was certainly a shock to his many friends.

H E Kinsloe FoundDead
Prominent Corsicanan Died of Heart Trouble Some Days Ago

About 8 o'clock this morning the lifeless body of H E Kinsloe, for many years awell known business man here and for eight years postmaster of Corsicana, wasfound in an out house on his premises, and the sad news spread rapidly over townand was the cause of universal sorrow for the deceased was not only highlyesteemed as a citizen, but was much loved by a large circle of friends.
Some months ago the family home on West Third Avenue was destroyed by fire andsince that time Mr. And Mrs. Kinsloe have spent much of their time out of town.Saturday afternoon about 3 o'clock the deceased came home from Beaumont makingthe trip in his car and after he reached here he went at once to cleaning up hiscar. About 5:30 Judge Blanding went home and seeing him in the yard, talkedawhile with him in the yard and invited him to come over to take supper. ThisMr. Kinsloe declined saying he wanted to go to town. About 6 o'clock Mr. A. H.Willie was passing and helped him roll his car into the garage. From that timeuntil the body of the deceased was found this morning nothing was heard of him.
Judge Blanding had received a phone message from Ralph Kinsloe making inquiriesabout his father and when he noted that the deceased had left one of his carcasings in the yard when the car was put up he became uneasy and went forSheriff Curington who came to the house and broke open the door of the littlehouse in which his dead body was found. The body lay flat on the back and therewas no indication to show that there had been any struggle. The body was removedto the undertaking parlors of C. B. Southerland where Drs. Shell and Kelton madean autopsy and declared that death was from natural causes. Dr. W. T. Shell, whohad been physician of the deceased for a number of years, says he had beentrouble with hardening of the arteries and heart trouble for some years and thathe was not at all surprised at his death. That the long drive here Saturday fromBeaumont and working on his car brought about an attack of apoplexy, causinginstant death.
The deceased is survived by his widow and two children, Mrs. Jas. L. Autry ofHouston and Ralph Kinsloe of Beaumont.
Funeral arrangements have not yet been announced.
Mrs. Kinsloe is visiting her daughter in Houston and has been notified of herhusband’s death. She is expected to reach here this afternoon at 5:30 or on theearly morning train tomorrow. Ralph Kinsloe is also expected to arrive thisafternoon or tomorrow morning from Beaumont. The funeral arrangements will awaitthe arrival of Mrs. Kinsloe and her son.
The body is now at Sutherland’s undertaking parlors.

Student dies in accident
Companion escapes waters after truck sinks

By Loyd Cook

ANGUS — An early morning accident resulted in a pickup truck plunging intoRichland Creek at the southern city limits of Angus near the 221 mile marker ofInterstate 45 Tuesday, killing one Navarro College student while anotherescaped.

The body of Jacob Howard, 19, of Lovelady was recovered from the chilly watersjust after noon by a Lewisville Fire Department Search and Rescue dive teamcalled in by the Texas Highway Patrol.

According to Highway Patrol Trooper Carlon Stapleton, the accident occurred atan undetermined time before 3:45 a.m. Tuesday, when law enforcement received areport of a man walking along I-45 in his boxer shorts.

The man — Aaron Brewer, 18, of Red Oak — said he and Howard, the driver of thetruck, had been drinking. The pair were driving at a high rate of speedsouthbound on the east I-45 service road, according to Stapleton.

The two men didn’t realize that service road came to an end at a barricade, crashing through it, then traveling approximately 20 to 25 yards further beforethe truck left a Richland Creek embankment and plunged into the water below — adrop of about seven to 10 feet.

Brewer escaped from the vehicle and law enforcement found him a mile or twonorth of the wreck scene after responding to the call-in report.

Lewisville divers reported they found the truck just after 11 a.m. — anestimated 50 to 60 feet below the surface of the water. They were unsure of theexact depth, reporting to support personnel on the banks of the creek that thediver locating the vehicle had a malfunctioning depth gauge.

Justice of the Peace Kirby Hill performed the inquest, pronouncing Howard deadat the scene.

Divers were at first unable to locate Howard’s body after diving and locatingthe truck. A second attempt was made to search the area near the bottom ofRichland Creek around the truck.

Howard was found just adjacent to the vehicle.

With members of Howard’s family present at the scene, divers carefully moved hisbody just below the surface of the water to the opposite creek bank where theirinflatable boat was located, then carefully to a cut-in the embankment upstreamwhere they had put into the waters, shielding much of the recovery fromonlookers.

Lewisville Assistant Fire Chief Tim Tittle said going the distance to lend ahand is part of their obligation for the ability to have a fully-equipped diveteam — equipped almost entirely by federal grant money.

“A lot of this equipment, this vehicle, was bought with federal grant money, sowe help out,” Tittle said. “That’s part of the deal you make when the federalgovernment gives you money for something like this.”

Tittle said, while his team normally covers the Metroplex area — LakeLewisville, Lavonne, White Rock, Las Colinas and the like — they’ve come out tothe Trinity River and other outlying areas when needed.

He said they traveled 99 miles on this emergency call and believed it to be thefarthest distance traveled to date for the dive team.

Highway Patrol Sgt. Ken Authier praised the out-of-town dive team for theirefforts.

“They came about 100 miles and got here within a couple of hours,” Authier said.“They were very professional, very experienced. They’d have been here all dayand come tomorrow if they’d had to.”

“Hopefully, we won’t need them again any time soon,” Authier added.

Richland Volunteer Fire Department sent its only diver into the water early inthe morning, but pulled him back after a lengthy period of time in the coldtemperatures of the water.

Along with the Highway Patrol, a Corsicana Fire and Rescue ambulance was onstandby. A Navarro County Sheriff’s Office unit was also at the scene, alongwith one of the game wardens.
