Hovia celebrates the joy of decorating with the world’s first augmented-reality wallpaper

This fall, wallpaper innovator Hovia is excited to announce the launch of Boogie, a serotonin-inducing, augmented reality wallpaper design.
Boogie is the perfect backdrop to any room in need of a dose of disco joy - Boogie Multi featured above.
Starring various relatable characters, each with their own signature dance moves, the design combines the latest decor and tech trends, resulting in a liveable, joyful product.
Hovia created the AR wallpaper design using the rotoscope animation technique viewed via a bespoke Instagram effect. Rotoscoping is the process of splitting video footage into individual frames, drawing over each of the individual frames before removing the video, leaving an animation that moves in a very true-to-life way.
At Hovia, we’re inspired by spaces that change our perspective on interior design, influence our mood… spaces that move us. I took this very literally when coming up with the concept for Boogie - I really liked the idea of a dancing wallpaper! The design celebrates the similarities of dancing and decorating as means of expressing ourselves.
Jessica Lee, Creative Designer, Hovia
Augmented reality has become a mainstay of interior design, allowing the designer and architect to convey concepts to clients via immersive experiences. According to WGSN, the extended reality (XR) market, comprising virtual reality (VR), augmented reality (AR), and mixed reality (MR), is booming. It was worth almost $28bn in 2021 and is set to hit more than $250bn by 2028. Hovia is interested in exploring the creative opportunities this brings to the home decor industry, particularly wallpaper design.
Mirror balls are encouraged when styling this design.
Increased Pinterest searches between 2022/2023 (+695%) for 'funky house decor' suggests a new-found (or restored) confidence and individuality in how people approach decorating.
“Dopamine Decor” or “Dopamine Dressing” is a huge trend in fashion and interiors. People are dressing themselves and their homes in a way that fills them with joy.
Lauren Kavanagh, Art Director at Hovia,
The Boogie Multi design is a fun addition to this bedroom.
The design comes in three colorways: muted black and white, contemporary colorful, and muted pastel, so whatever aesthetic you’re going for, styling this wallpaper couldn’t be easier.
Lauren goes on to give styling tips for the Boogie design:
“Opt for statement furniture pieces like a funky coffee table or lamp to bring out your playful side. Maybe even throw in a disco ball! The muted pastels or black and white Boogie are good options for those who prefer a more minimal decor style. Place this product in a hallway, or office to add a little joy to your daily routine.”
Follow the instructions below to see the characters strut their stuff!
