The anticipation for the Pirates of the Caribbean crossover in Fortnite initially came from a leaked Fortnite 2024 roadmap, which outlined Epic Games's upcoming plans for their popular online battle royale game.

The leaked document also referenced future collaborations with Metallica, Doctor Doom, Karol G, and Snoop Dogg giving it further credibility.

Following this leak, Epic eventually confirmed that characters from Pirates of the Caribbean, including Jack Sparrow, would be featured in Fortnite as part of the Cursed Sails Pass.

However, due to an unintended release, the crossover content was prematurely made available this past weekend. Shortly after its accidental launch, Epic swiftly removed the content from the game.

According to the FortniteStatus Twitter account, players who bought the Fortnite Cursed Sails pass were only able to access the Captain Jack Sparrow skin during the unintended leak, as progression through the pass was not possible until its official launch on July 19.
